Don’t give them a miss because of their bitter taste. Because they contain potent compounds that are known to lower blood sugar levels and keep diabetes in check.

 

  • Karela (or bitter guard) contains a ‘plant-insulin’ that helps lower blood sugar levels. It also possesses antioxidant properties, which help reduce the risk of diabetic complications. Drink karela juice, twice or thrice a day before meals.

 

  • Neem leaves lower blood sugar levels and are believed to reduce dependence on hypogycemic drugs. Eat a handful of neem leaves first thing in the morning.

 

  • Drumstick Leaves are also effective in regulating sugar levels. Eat the leaves fresh or make a juice or soup with the leaves.
